Wall-E Rules!

How do we dispose of trash at home?

There are two categories:
  • Trash you bring to school for house points
  • Trash you dispose of at home in your green, brown, red and black bins, or take to your nearest recycling station

Paper

Picture
  • All paper and card
  • Milk and other drink cartons - read how to do this below!

Milk Cartons

Picture
  • Give them a quick rinse with cold water
  • Turn them upside down to dry.
  • Then flatten and stuff into another empty carton, as seen in the picture.
  • Put one or more of these stuffed cartons into a plastic bag.
  • Drop it in your green paper bin.
This will be sorted at the Recycling Centre, and the cartons will be made into any number of other household items: pizza boxes, notepads, etc.

In Norway, 750 million milk cartons are sold each year, and over 70% of these are disposed of correctly and made into other items.

Compost

Picture
  • All food waste - just make sure you separate any wrappers first.
  • Paper napkins, muffin cups, etc

Hazardous Waste

Picture
  • Paint, glue, etc.
  • Most people would use this bin for batteries and light bulbs too, but remember that you should bring these in to school for House Points!
  • This bin is emptied only once or twice a year.

Non-recyclable Waste

Picture
  • There are some ISS teachers whose black bin is always empty, because they put 100% of what they use into the different recycling bins (these are teachers without babies, so no dirty nappies/diapers!)
  • Why don't you try to convince your parents to do the same?

Clothes

In Stavanger there are several locations where you can deliver your second hand clothing so that others can use it.
