Beach Clean-Up - September 25th

Picture
Hopefully there are no beaches in Stavanger that look like this, but even if this were the case, they would still be no match for our eager beach cleaners who will be jumping into action at our annual beach clean-up on the 25th of September!  More information to follow.

Tree Planting Day - September & May

Picture
Tree Planting Day (organised by Environment Online) takes place twice a year, in May and in September.  Environment Online (ENO) is a global network, which has been running since 2000, whose aim is to have planted 100 million trees by the end of 2017.  So far, we have only reached the 4 million mark, but the number of schools partaking increases exponentially each year.

ISS is one of 4,000 schools in 150 countries that took part in this programme last school year.  Our very own SWEC (Show We Care), lead by Christine Kemp, are to thank for this.  If you would like to take part in the next Tree Planting Day, let Ms Kemp or your Home Room teacher know.

Earth Hour - 26th of March 2011

Picture
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating.

On Saturday 27 March, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action.

Earth Hour 2011 will take place on Saturday 26 March at 8.30PM.

Play the Earth Hour game here, and forward it to your friends.
