Wall-E Rules!

What more can I do?

Bringing in batteries, ink cartridges and spectacles is standard Middle School procedure, and everyone's doing it.  If you are asking yourself: "How can I go the extra mile?", read on.

Buy a Battery Charger

Picture
Even though you get a house point for every used battery you bring in, it would be much better to not use any at all!  Why not buy a battery charger instead?

This will allow you to reuse your batteries hundreds of times.  In addition, you will be awarded 1,000 points when you hand in a receipt for a battery charger and one set of batteries.
The most well known place to buy these is Clas Ohlson at Madlatorget or Kvadrat.

Buy an extra set of rechargeable batteries

Buy an extra set of rechargeable batteries to go with your battery charger and bring in the receipt!  This will be worth 1,000 house points.

Join AXIS

AXIS is the Middle School environmental group.
They meet regularly to service the WALL-Es when needed, to collate recycled notebooks, to confirm the batteries brought in for House Points are completely used up, to come up with new ideas to make our school greener, and to prepare for the AXIS events throughout the year.

Plant a Tree on your Birthday

Picture
Why not give the planet a present on your birthday?  If you want to plant a tree in your own garden, talk to your parents well in advance, and take a photo of the grand event.

If you do not have space in your own garden, you may be able to donate your tree to ISS and plant it on our school grounds.  To do this, simply email Ms Kemp at [email protected]

For every tree you purchase and plant, you will earn 2,000 house points.

Use newspaper to wrap your Christmas presents

Picture
In Norway last Christmas, we wasted 60 million metres of gift wrapping paper.  This is a truly frightening statistic, particularly if you take into account that the population of Norway is equal to just a single city in the UK or the US.

But the most shocking fact is this: the bright and glossy paper that most of us like to use is non recyclable.  The advice is to put all 60 million metres of it into the general waste.

ISS can make a difference this Christmas:  encourage your family to use newspaper to wrap your presents, take a jolly family picture with the environmentally friendly gifts, and earn up to 2,000 house points.  Email your picture to [email protected] before 10th January 2011.
